The first Goring 10k was held in 1996 boasting just a couple of hundred entrants. Originally organised as a fun run by a handful of local residents, the event soon showed signs of far greater potential.
Then, as now, it took place in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the banks of the Thames as well as on the Ridgeway. And with this scenic setting in its favour, it took just a few years for it to become established as a recognised fixture in the UK’s running calendar.
Appealing to a broad spectrum of runners - many of whom now use it as part of their build up to the Reading Half and the London Marathons – it has become a popular event attracting a full field of approximately 1200 entrants from all parts of the country.
Some four years ago, the Parent/Teacher Association of Goring Primary School took over management of the race and, today, in conjunction with local and national businesses, it aims to maximise the opportunities provided by the large numbers of people who both participate and attend.
The Goring 10k is now a registered charity and all proceeds go to the local primary school.
